PERSONAL COMMENTARY

"King of the Hill" Day by day the hill disappeared under the onslaught of relentless earth moving machines. Meanwhile, a tree-sitter perched in the boughs of "old Glory", the old oak, and real estate development and prices grew non-stop. I tried to portray all of this in this painting. Painting is oil on canvas size 24" x 30"
"Is this Progress?" This painting started as a look at the history of Newhall, California. The old newspaper clippings, cow skull, oil well and windmill seemed right. The painting started to grow as gas cost rose to over $4 a gallon, home values peaked, and the "Yuppie" accoutrements of civilization came to our rural community. The painting ends with the fall of the economy; resulting in home auctions and foreclosures. Painting is watercolor, collaged found papers, and acrylic on #300 Arches watercolor paper Size 22" x 30"
